Weekly notes on applying the sermon to the rest of the hours in our week.

Thank you so much for the prayer and support we received over the past week as our family was hit by sickness and our youngest ended up at Childrens! We are happy to share the praise report that all are on the mend. This last Sunday (via the unique modality of a prerecorded video sermon!) we began our winter sermon series “King of Kings.” During this series we are exploring various characters we encounter on our Kingdoms journey.  And our “character” this past week was the nation of Israel in the book of Judges.  We saw the cycle of that book that repeated over and...

As we begin the new year, so also we begin our next chapter in our Immerse Bible Reading Experience as we turn to “Kingdoms.” We are encouraging everyone to engage with our journey of reading through Kingdoms.  You can read through it via the slightly more intense 8 Week Reading Plan.  Or you can take the more leisurely journey (although still quite the accomplishment) of the 16 Week Reading Plan.  Or you can break it down into whatever number of weeks will work best for you.  The goal is to simply immerse ourselves in this part of God’s Word.  There’s even a 40 day...

Happy New Year!  Here we are…we’re not just at the beginning of a new year, but at the beginning of a new decade.  What a wonderful Sunday we had last weekend as we heard from multiple voices of how people were encountering Jesus in 2019.  As we are in those days where many are contemplating resolutions and goals for the coming year, my prayer is that we here at Creekside would continue to grow in our resolve, passion, and burden to not just daily encounter Jesus in our own lives…but all the more so be resolved to being a part of God’s movement of Him encountering...

“On the third day of Christmas…” It’s an interesting phenomenon.  Months of Christmas being on the store shelves and flavored in our coffee drinks.  4 weeks of lighting candles, singing carols, and hearing non-stop Christmas music on some of our radio stations.  A season of Advent that is all about waiting, anticipation, and expectation.  And then all of a sudden the 25th happens and then pow…it’s all done. Historically in the church there is the “Season of Christmas.” And it doesn’t even begin until the day of Christmas.  And do you know...

It’s really profound when we truly stop, pause, and think about what is being declared in some of these classic Advent and nativity texts.  Like this past Sunday where we started with the angelic proclamation to the shepherds in Luke 2 and really sat on the words “He is the Messiah!”  I don’t know about you, but I sometimes forget that the nativity story is really the beginning of the apex of the Great Rescue Mission of God.  This apex goes from the cradle to the cross (and most definitely to the empty tomb). Christmas is coming.  It’s less than a week away. ...

This Advent and Christmas season we are taking some intentional time to really pause and think on some of the classic texts and themes of this season.  It is really the perfect time to invite friends and family members who are currently plugged into a church.  This last Sunday we had the awesome experience of being semi-unplugged for our worship service (thanks to the adaptive leadership of our worship band!) and we took time to really pause and sit with the ginormous truth and reality that our “star-breathing” God took on flesh in the person of Jesus as a fragile baby.  If you...

As we continue to head into the month of December, I want to give you a heads up about a few things that are directly connected to our ongoing emphasis on the 167 hours between our Sunday worship gatherings. I’m praying that we all would continue to encounter Jesus in deeper and more transforming ways as we walk through this Advent journey.  This is such a special season where there seems to be such a softening and opening from others to be able to encounter the real meaning and person of Christmas.  As we continue to encounter Him in a personal way, my encouragement to all of us is to...

Happy Thanksgiving to you all!! I can sincerely borrow Paul’s words from the beginning of his letter when he wrote to the Philippians saying: “I thank my God every time I remember you. In all of my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus!” May today truly be a day for you that is overflowing with giving thanks to God. And may each day be one (as we talked about this past...

This past Sunday was confirmation Sunday- 7 students confirmed their faith and told us how we could pray for them. We as a church family can now in turn ask ourselves these very same questions and confirm our faith. Start with the easy question-What is your favorite book of the Bible? Why? Then move to the harder questions. When did you realize your need for to be reconciled with God through Jesus? What is the hardest part of following Jesus- prayer, service, thoughts, study of God’s Word? And finally a good follow up question. How can the church pray for you? These are questions to probe...

If you were with us this past Sunday in our worship service, I wonder if you might have walked away from the morning humming that old song from the Newsboys: “Shine! Make them wonder what you got…”  As we’ve been walking through the letter of Philippians, it’s become very clear that one of Paul’s main concerns was regarding the advancement of the Gospel in all situations.  He reminded them (and us!) to shine! To shine the Gospel in the midst of a very dark world. And we talked a bit about how we can perhaps increase our shine factor.  Remembering that is...
