The 167: November 28, 2019

Happy Thanksgiving to you all!! I can sincerely borrow Paul’s words from the beginning of his letter when he wrote to the Philippians saying: “I thank my God every time I remember you. In all of my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus!” May today truly be a day for you that is overflowing with giving thanks to God. And may each day be one (as we talked about this past...

If you were with us this past Sunday in our worship service, I wonder if you might have walked away from the morning humming that old song from the Newsboys: “Shine! Make them wonder what you got…”  As we’ve been walking through the letter of Philippians, it’s become very clear that one of Paul’s main concerns was regarding the advancement of the Gospel in all situations.  He reminded them (and us!) to shine! To shine the Gospel in the midst of a very dark world. And we talked a bit about how we can perhaps increase our shine factor.  Remembering that is...

We’ve begun our journey in the letter of Philippians and spent this past Sunday immersing ourselves in the first 26 verses.  We were particularly reminded about 3 helpful perspectives that Paul shares with us in the latter part of that first chapter (on circumstances, others, and the big picture). Hopefully this week you have been aware of your own perspectives and prayerfully considering if the Spirit might be trying to cause a shift within you. As we continue on this journey, I encourage us all to daily immerse ourselves in this letter to the Philippians.  Read it like a...

It’s a daily thing: saturating ourselves in the Gospel.  As our series on this topic came to a close this last Sunday, we spent time thinking a little more creatively about what it looks like to share our story with others.  And specifically, our challenge coming out of Sunday was to be very intentional in making sure it is clear that Jesus is the real hero of our story/life.  Have you thought about it recently? Is Jesus really the hero in your story…or does he often come across as more of a supporting actor?  My encouragement is twofold: 1) Take some intentional time to...

Last Sunday we had the gift of being able to hear from Keith Ferrin again as part of our current “Gospel Saturation” sermon series.  I hope you found it as helpful as I did.  When it comes to being a person that is saturating in God’s Word, the paradigm shift that Keith was talking about is so very important.  While it is important to know technical things about the validity of our Scriptures…and it is important to know various helpful techniques on how to go about reading it…the biggest game changer in going to be found in our WHY.  Why spend time in the...

This last Sunday we dug deep.  We’re in this sermon series called “Gospel Saturation.” Having been refreshed two weeks ago about what we mean by the “Good News,” we spent last Sunday considering how we could further let the Gospel saturate us to our roots by naming the real beliefs that are behind some of the unwanted fruit we experience and graciously countering those with grace-filled truth of the Gospel.  If you weren’t able to be with us, I encourage you to check out the podcast. You can also find a pdf here of the slide we used in the service to try...

Can you picture the sponge?  How has the saturation level been this week? It’s a day-by-day and step-by-step process.  Daily soaking a little more in Jesus.  And then watching how God spills over and out around you through these 167 hours of the week.  Join us this Sunday as we continue this journey of saturating ourselves further in the Gospel. And also please consider joining us on Sunday evening at 6:30pm in the Commons for our first “Biblical Conversation Cafe.” The intent of this first Sunday is going to be to 1) help to frame up how we can start to have even healthier...

What a wonderful (and full!) Sunday we had together last weekend!  If you happened to miss it, it was our annual meeting and ministry celebration morning.  In addition to doing some church business, we spent most of our time talking about where God led us over the past year and where He is leading us as we head into this new school year.  You’ll definitely want to take a listen to our podcast to catch everything we talked about…you can find that podcast here. We also handed out an incredible 16-page annual report that is jam-packed with all kinds of ministry reports (both about...

We’ve got an exciting and full Sunday ahead of us!  Along with other rhythms in our community, we are kicking the fall off this Sunday as we take time to celebrate what God has done this past year and where He is leading us in the year ahead.  This is going to be our annual meeting celebration and worship service.  You don’t want to miss this one.  Plus…plan to also stay afterwards for our monthly potluck...

Thank you to everyone that came out last Saturday to serve and bless the staff at Sherwood Forest Elementary School! And what a wonderful morning of worship we had with 19+ other churches that gathered together to worship in the Downtown Bellevue Park this past Sunday.  Experiences like last weekend remind me of two key things. The first reminder is that we are a part of a much larger Kingdom mission that God is (and has always been) doing in this community and world.  And God is doing incredible things not just through our life and ministry together here at Creekside, but in so many...
